    Good

Jo on reception was very welcoming and friendly. Breakfast is freshly cooked and not buffet.

Over use of air freshners in the end house we stayed in.

    Superb

Rooms were clean and pleasent and breakfast was very good as usual

In this economic climate the rooms could be cheaper

Staff seemed to want to help. Car parking was available, though not easy to fit my estate in!

    Drinks were expensive

The staff made our stay at this hotel a very enjoyable experience, especially the breakfast girls. Wonderful, efficient and friendly service. Well done ladies and thank you.

    Good

The double room was quite small, as was the bathroom. Breakfast time on Sunday was given as 8.30 to 9.30am - quite restrictive for a relaxed weekend

    Exceptional

The location was the main point. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the room, although a little old fashioned in its decor, was comfortable and clean and all our needs for one night were met. We would use the hotel again.

Good location, pleasant view from quiet room.

Room overlooking garden - pleasant outlook.

Breakfast staff rather abrupt; not very welcoming

Good shower but ensuite and room rather small with minimum supply of toiletries and tea/coffee in room, very small towels too. Felt it was rather overpriced, especially as didn't include breakfast. However it was ideally situated for us, but it was the only choice!

    Very good

We stayed in the biggest family room and was very happy with the fact that each of the kids (3+baby!) had his own bed. This is a hard feature to find! The room was well equipped. The breakfast was very big and good, and presented a lot of choices. The gardens of the hotel are beautiful. Overall, nice British experience, not your typical chain- hotels. Fitted our needs as a big family.

Room was dirty - spider webs, dust, previous guest's garbage under the beds. Room wasn't well maintained - missing lightbulbs (weren't changed after we asked), broken lock in shower. I would still recommend staying in this hotel because of all the pros mentioned above, but not to people that put high importance on cleanness... Also - a mini fridge in the room would be nice.

    Good

The staff were very attentive and offered a personal service

So close to the train line, the noise of the trains was a bit disrupting.

    Fabulous

It's nice to stay in Victorian and Edwardian houses, very comfortable, we had a big room. All the staff was very helpful. Gardens are lovely specially when the sun is out.

The only problem was the low pressure of the water in the shower.

    Exceptional

As a family of 5 to stay together and not have to pay for 2 rooms was brilliant! The room was clean (although dated), with plenty of hot water and a good shower. Breakfast was super quick service and all correct for a fussy family. Staff couldn't have been more helpful and was very eager to please. We were staying there to have easy access to london ( can be in centre in 30 mins, cost £25 for 5 to get return ticket for all zones in london and St.Albans is close to M1 for quick access to the North) The hotel was convenient for both town and train. All in all a great stay.

I would only say that this hotel was dated, but to pay for a refurbishment would probably double the prices. it is so rare to find a great hotel, sleeps 5 and friendly. I would recommend this hotel in a flash.

    Fabulous

Nice, clean, friendly hotel. Great value for money. Good breakfast also.

Noise levels. No sound proofing - general noise of people walking by, creaky floorboards, doors closing.

  • 9.2
    Superb

Very comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. Friendly and heplful staff. Good facilities for budget - comfortable bed and enjoyable food. Excellent cleanliness. Convenient for train station and commute to London. Good parking. Would visit again and recommend to colleagues. Thankyou. Rate and reputation lived up to expectation.

Small bathroom but well serviced. Not a complaint.
